Purses with a Purpose

Highline was honored to sponsor the Manistique Women’s Club’s Purses With A Purpose event, a heartfelt initiative to support the Beacon House in Marquette. The Women’s Club collected nearly 100 purses for auction, raising vital funds for Beacon House—a “home away from home” for families across the Upper Peninsula whose loved ones are receiving care at U.P. Health System-Marquette and the Upper Peninsula Medical Center.

The live auction was a lively evening filled with laughter, friendly competition, and excitement as attendees bid fiercely on their favorite bags. For those unable to attend, an online auction ensured everyone could join in the fun and contribute to the cause. Thanks to the generosity of bidders, the Manistique Women’s Club made a significant donation to Beacon House, helping families stay close during challenging times.

At Highline, we’re proud to support initiatives that strengthen our communities, just as we connect them with gigabit fiber internet. Together, we’re making a difference—one purse, one connection, one family at a time.

TEACHERS OF THE MONTH

Congratulations Brooke Landis, Rapid River Schools🎉👏

We’re thrilled to honor Brooke Landis, a first-year 3rd-grade teacher at Rapid River Schools, as our May 2025 Teacher of the Month!

A Rapid River High School graduate, Brooke was inspired to teach by her kindergarten teacher, Char DeGrave, whose kindness, warmth, and compassion left a lasting impact. “Char showed me the kind of teacher I wanted to be—one students can trust and turn to,” Brooke shares. Her journey brought her back to Rapid River Schools, where she’s now shaping young minds with the same care and dedication.

Brooke cherishes building relationships with her students, celebrating their unique ideas and those “lightbulb moments” when they grasp a new concept. While juggling a packed curriculum can be challenging, Brooke ensures her students experience a rich, hands-on learning environment. Science has become a class favorite, with experiments like building paper bridges and testing their strength by stacking pennies. She also loves teaching Math, joining students for Friday recess, and facilitating PALS, a partnered reading program. A quote displayed around the school guides her daily: “They might forget what you taught them, but they will never forget how you treated them.”

Outside the classroom, Brooke enjoys biking, hiking, and baking sweet treats like cakes, cupcakes, and pies. She treasures time with family and friends, bringing the same warmth to her personal life as she does to her teaching. Her nominator’s words speak volumes: “Ms. Landis has restored my daughter’s self-confidence in ways I can’t fully express. She’s an incredible person and an outstanding teacher. She truly deserves this!”

Brooke, you’re becoming the teacher you needed as a student, leaving a lasting impact on your classroom and community. Join us in thanking Miss Brooke Landis for her unwavering dedication—and take a moment to thank a teacher in your life for all they do!

Congratulations to Alesha Havens, May 2025 Teacher of the Month!🎉👏

Alesha has dreamed of becoming a teacher for as long as she can remember. As a child, she would often play “school”, imagining herself in the role. Fourteen years ago, that dream became a reality when she began teaching elementary students. She currently teaches 2nd grade at Tahquamenon Area Schools in Newberry.

In her classroom, Alesha focuses not only on teaching the standard curriculum but also on imparting important life skills such as building peer relationships, working collaboratively in groups, and developing problem-solving abilities.

When asked about her favorite aspect of teaching, Alesha shared that she loves how each day brings something new and different. Most of all, she cherishes the connections she forms with her students and enjoys watching them grow over the years.

Out of school, Alesha loves spending time with her family. During the winter, she stays busy traveling to watch her son play hockey. In the summer, she can often be found relaxing at her lake house or out on the golf course. This year, she’ll also be teaching summer school.

Thank you, Alesha, for your unwavering commitment to our youth and for all you do to nurture and inspire the minds of our future.

While we operate within easements, Highline understands that homeowners take pride in caring for that area. We do ask for a bit of forgiveness as we lay this monumental infrastructure, but we are also committed to fixing issues residents have with the easement area on their property. Crews are performing real-time restorations on areas that are completed and clean-up crews will come around to areas that were missed due to unforeseen circumstances.
